Seems like a lifetime ago when Lisa and I got together to discuss a fun idea for a creative shoot. We wanted something a little different than an actual wedding. I recently received a call from a guy wanting to surprise his girlfriend by popping the question during a weekend trip. He wanted some ideas. I wish I could have shown him this shoot but we were still keeping it a big surprise until it appeared on the Wedding Chicks!
Quebec has the most beautiful Orchards and it just to happens that I live close to a beautiful one called Ile Saint-Bernard. I thought this would be the most ideal place. It overlooks a stunning lake that glitters like diamonds on a bright sunny day. Lisa took full advantage of the perfect weather and landscape to capture this adorable moment.
The concept was the couple was simply going to pick some flowers and enjoy a sweet and romantic picnic. A few light items to enjoy the warmth of a perfect spring day.
I must have brought up the idea of having bread wrapped within paper with an enchanting message written in calligraphy a hundred times to Lisa. Not necessarily for this shoot but perhaps the discussion for other ideas. However, when we came up with the engagement idea, we knew this was the one. We had Joy from Imaginejoy Calligraphy write up a poem on some kraft paper with the concept of the proposal being unveiled when she unwrapped the bread. Joy chose a lovely poem by Pablo Neruda that ended with the big question… “Will you marry me?”.
A table for two
What better way to celebrate such a wonderful moment? Sweets and bubbly, of course. The oh so yummy apple pie and donuts were literally whipped up on the fly by my very good friend and owner of Les Demoiselle Vanessa! Believe me when I say they were just as delightful as they look.
I just had to have some flowers in there so I opted for a more understated rustic look by using a few greens mixed with wax flowers. I think this was a perfect option for an outdoor orchard shoot.
We truly hope you enjoyed this post and that all you guys and gals out there that had no creative ideas on how to propose to their significant other are now inspired! You can always reach out to Lisa and I to set this up and capture this once in a lifetime moment.
